Selena Gomez And 'Wizards' Co-Star Jake T. Austin Are Super Close: 'She's A Sweet Girl,' He Says

Like any guy his age, Jake T. Austin plays baseball. Unlike most guys his age, he pitched a perfect game. Ok, not literally, but Austin does portray Angel Macias in the movie "The Perfect Game." In 1957, Macias made history not only pitching the only perfect game in Little League World Series championship game history, but by being a member of the first non-American team to take the title, the Industrials of Monterrey, Mexico.

But even with baseball on the brain, Austin had a moment to spare to chat about his costar on the popular Disney Channel show "Wizards of Waverly Place," Selena Gomez. “She’s a very talented actress for her age and she’s a really sweet and nice girl.” He added, “She’s got so much going on, it’s amazing how she’s able to stay grounded and keep sight of everything that’s important.”

You’d think Austin would be in a similar position being the object of every young girl’s affection, but Austin assured, “You’d recognize my face sometimes, but, you know, I’m not really in that so much, which I’m kind of happy for.” Being less famous does have its upsides. “I’m happy I’m a little more on the DL so I’m able to go to school and, you know, do those things, which I also find very important.”

However, with "Wizards" going into its fourth season and "The Perfect Game" about to significantly increase Jake’s star status, he’s got to be prepared. He admits even Selena gets bogged down by the tabloid trend at times. “She’s a teenage girl.” He continued, “All girls like reading those magazines and going to the websites and all that. But, yeah. I mean, everyone gets stressed out.”

Lucky for Jake, he’s got Selena and David Henrie on set to keep him on track. “She’s my good friend so we talk about stuff and I talk about stuff with David and everybody. We all have different relationships with each other.” Either Selena and David are nudging Jake in the right direction or he’s naturally grounded, because Jake has impressively sensible hopes for the future. “My goal is to do the projects that I’m the happiest doing, the films that are completely different from my personality and the films I’ll have the most fun performing in.” Who can argue with that?

Will you check out "The Perfect Game" in theaters this weekend? Are you crushing on Jake T. Austin? Are you a big fan of Selena?
